NY Times Ad Accused of ‘Hate Speech’ Against Catholics

A secularist group’s New York Times ad that urges Catholics to leave the Church over its’ resistance to the contraception mandate is being called “hate speech” by critics.

“Not a single Catholic who reads this ad will be impelled to leave the Church. That is not the issue,” said Catholic League president Bill Donohue. “The issue is the increase in hate speech directed at Catholics.”

The Madison, Wisconsin-based Freedom from Religion Foundation ad “It’s Time to Quit the Catholic Church” ran on March 9 and billed itself as an “open letter to ‘liberal’ and ‘nominal’ Catholics”…

The foundation’s website says it raised $52,000 to place the ad on page 10 of the Times’ front section.

Donohue harshly criticized the newspaper ad, saying it engages in a “palpable” demonization of the Catholic Church and uses the HHS mandate as a “pretext” to attack the Church.

  1. Why are we so surprised, these are the new secularists, pressed by their own profane and really state and social ideas. Reminds me of the old communists! This is sadly where Western culture is heading! Note here the Obama people, the new Bonhoefferian secular ideas!

I saw this yesterday and as a solicitor I can state without any equivocation that the ad in question does constitute “hate speech”. I’m not particularly surprised that the NYT decided to publish it. That particular publication is an enemy of faith of any description bar that of the “useful idiot” variety such as TEC.

It is the issue of the century and we can count on it to increase in volume. Sometimes I wonder if the altar boy abuse was not an inside job done performed by man who joined the priesrhood woth a set purpose. If not than certainly it was and maybe comtinies as the work of the devil!
    Be on the alert !
One also has to question the wisdom and purpose that Notre Dame and Georgetown Universities associated with this White House. We must face facts either we were fooled or we did not pay attention to the purpose of these politicians. Remember well, the strong can only be conquered and/or subdued from within.

I challenge the NY Times to post anything negative about Islam. They are such cowards and hypocrites that they would never post such an ad even if all muslim women were to ask them to do that. This is all political. Why don’t they use their time and resources on actually doing investigative journalism instead of serving as lap dogs for the obama administration which is bent on attacking Catholics while excluding Muslims from its health mandate.
