How can anybody not be pro-life when the alternative is to be anti-life? Or pro-death? No brainer–killing babies is bad.

    PSALM 139

For it was you who created my being,
knit me together in my mother’s womb.
    I thank you for the
    wonder of my being,
    for all the wonders
    of all your creation.

    Already you
    knew my soul,
my body held no secret from you
when I was being fashioned in
    secret
and moulded in the depths of the
    earth.

    PRAYER FOR THE UNBORN CHILD

    Heavenly Father send Your
Holy Spirit to renew our love.

    Watch over the stirrings of
life in the womb and bring it
    to fruition.

    May it suffer no untimely
    birth at nature’s whim nor
    violence at our hands.

    Let every human life show
    forth the Creator’s love and
    strengthen the human family.

    Made in your image, let
    each person thrive and come
    to fullness in due time.

    We make this prayer through
    Christ Our Lord. Amen

    IVF : choosing baby’s gender

Opinion is sharply divided over what is regarded as a test case for couples who want to choose the sex of their baby through IVF, said the Herald Sun. The background of the case is shocking to many. A Victorian couple with three boys chose to terminate a pregnancy after they discovered the mother was carrying twin boys. The couple, who previously had a stillborn daughter, are desperately seeking another girl. The case is now before the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal. IVF pioneer Professor Gab Kovacs say”s “people should be able to balance their family if they want to” – who will be harmed? In these cases, the unwanted embryos could simply be discarded. But gene ethicists argue that allowing the couple to choose the sex of their next child would “open the floodgates”.

Well, we don’t want to diminish the couple’s pain over previously losing a daughter, said The Daily Telegraph, but it could be that advances in IVF technology are ädding a layer of choice where choice is not necessarily a good thing”. And there’s something worrying about a tribunal, despite noble intentions, ruling on whether a couple has the right to determine the sex of their child. This ethical dilemma is äbout as deep as rabbit holes go”, said Sam Cleveland on The Punch. It akes the abortion debate seem “clear cut in comparison”. Questions arise about the impact on society of skewed gender selection, and it’s hard to avoid the hint that gender choice is just another “slalom gate on the slippery slope towards designer babies, master races and California Uber Alles”

Oh please, let’s not get carried away, said Sally Morrell in the Herald Sun. Letting couples balance their families through IVF “always made sense to me”. Those of us with a child of each sex realise we would have missed out on a lot if we’d only had all boys or all girls. Surely it’s better for couples to choose the sex at the outset, rather than use abortion for sex selection. Sure, just ask Gerry Harvey, said Stephen Lunn in The Australian. “The customer is always right. “If I can get my SUV customised and remodel my kitchen with a cappuccino machine, why can’t I get my next child just right? The thing is, it’s not about them, is it? “It’s about me.”
