Nun Arrested for Vandalism at Nuclear Facility

An 82-year-old nun will be appearing in court, after being arrested for vandalism and trespassing at a nuclear facility, The Tablet website reports today (August 7, 2012).
Sr. Megan Rice — a Sister of the Heart of the Child Jesus — is part of a group called Transform Now Plowshares, who broke into the Highly-Enriched Uranium Manufacturing Facility (HEUMF) in Oak Ridge, Tennessee last week.
The facility is the American Government’s only facility for handling, processing, and storing weapons-grade uranium.
Sr. Megan and two other activists allegedly broke through four perimeter fences and walked for two hours through a “fatal force zone” patrolled by guards and attached two banners to the pillars of the building housing the HEUMF saying: “Transform Now Plowshares” and “Swords into Plowshares Spears into Pruning Hooks — Isaiah.”

Yeah, green causes rather than pro-life stance. It’s a pity she was not arrested for trespassing at Planned Parenthood slaughterhouse. Fortunately, this hippie nun generation (aged 70-80 now) is really fading away.
In fact, it has been even said that Vatican’s recent attempt to reform US liberal religious women congregations (LCWR) aims not primarily at ensuring clarity of Catholic teaching, but is rather a final desperate attempt to rescue some women orders of glorious and honourable past which will simply die out (with hardly any vocations and average age of a nun of 69) if nothing is done to reform them. It is argued that otherwise – i.e. if not for the sake of these congregations themselves – the Church would not bother about solving the problem (which was certain to generate liberal uproar) as it will be solved by itself in 10 years or so, while new traditional and orthodox women congregations are blooming in the US.
Let us pray for those great, traditional, orthodox women who dedicate themselves to God, and not vain politics.
Gentlemen, it is possible to both picket arms bases and abortion clinics…I have done both and I do not have any evidence that Sr Megan is any different in her views or approach.
I am also opposed to the death penalty, embyonic stem cell research and euthanasia. It is the consistent approach that the Church calls for and sadly avoided by most commentators and politicians, whatever their party label.
Sir, or Madam, you are not a Catholic “Leftwinger” but just Catholic. “Leftwing” Catholicism brings Liberation Theology in mind. And such a thing holds a baleful influence in many Roman parishes, leading to… doggie communion.
The “Left” itself has produced in me extreme cynicism and skepticism in how it presented itself in the sociao-political for the last few decades now. (Also: Occupy Wall Street movement.)
Sir,
All you are doing is labelling and making mistakes because of it. I suggest you pay attention to the fact that I am a Catholic Leftwinger and not a left wing Catholic. Also, you mix up the American concept of Liberal with the British concept of Left of Centre, they are quite different.
I have made no reference to Liberation Theology.
To suggest my first comment, defending the Right to Life, leads you to the idea I hold views that would lead to a gross offence against Our Lord in the Real Presence is contemptible.
I beg your pardon for my ignorance, then. This is a mistake on my part.
I do not object to your action against abortion clinics, nor to your opposition of the death penalty, embyonic stem cell research and euthanasia, and all that. That is commendable.
I am only always suspicious of the word “Left”: it is sinister. It is akin to a shell-shocked veteran reacting to loud noises, thinking they are enemy fire.
I have become locked into the notion that the Left is always Liberal. And by Left, I mean communists, socialists, Marxists, etc. (And by Right, Throne-and-Altar Monarchism)
Apology accepted.
Liberal and Libertarian are very close together in so much as their roots are in the utilitarian concept of something having moral value when the individual needs it rather than basing a value on an objective fact.
Classic Liberals are in all parties and Mrs Thatcher, one of the standard bearers of the Right, was/is a John Stuart Mill Liberal.
The head of the British Parliamentary Pro-Life Group is a Labour Politician and would describe himself as a Social Democrat.
Labels are not easy to adhere to people.
