I sincerely hope that a sensible prosecutor or a wise Judge will rule that at this distance of time from the alleged events, a fair trial cannot take place. There is a world of difference between:-

    (i) the situation where an allegation is old but evidence has been collected at the time and preserved until the alleged offender can be taken into custody and brought before a court; and

(ii) the situation where the allegation is newly made about matters alleged to have taken place many years ago where there can be no contemporaneous evidence and the verdict will necessarily have to be founded merely on the relative credibility of witnesses.

In “stale” cases such as this, all too often the only safe verdict will be that of the Almighty and that fallible human justice should recognise that.
