An Altar Dedicated to HIV/AIDS?

Anglican Samizdat:

From here (page 2):

It is noteworthy that this Cathedral continues to bear witness to the hundreds of lives lost from AIDS in this community. Its special altar dedicated to HIV/AIDS is, to my knowledge, one of only two that exist in Canada. The other, called the Chapel of Hope, is at the Catholic Church of St. Pierre L’Apotre Montreal in the heart of the gay village.

Within North America, there are two more Chapels in San Francisco and New York, and both are housed within Anglican churches. Think of it, New York, San Francisco, Montreal and Hamilton.

Australia: Calls for New Approach to Curb Big Rise in HIV Cases

Contact Online:

New approaches? Would that include a moral dirmention perhaps? Of course not! That would be against the dangerous spirit of the age and the disastrous PC.

The most recent increase in the number of new HIV cases diagnosed – from 1051 new cases in 2010 to 1137 in 2011 – has been driven by increases among gay men.

HIV rates have increased substantially for the first time in five years, leading experts to warn urgent action is needed to stop the virus’ spread.

Figures to be released today show the number of HIV diagnoses increased by 8 per cent in 2011, and have increased by 50 per cent over the past 10 years.

David Wilson, the head of the Kirby Institute’s Surveillance and Evaluation Program for Public Health at the University of New South Wales, said NSW, Victoria and the ACT have driven the increase.

“In these three states we have seen quite a significant rise in the last calendar year,” he said.

Victoria experienced the biggest increase but in New South Wales more people were diagnosed with HIV they had only recently caught, as opposed to being diagnosed only after the condition had progressed.

Associate Professor Wilson said it was unusual for infectious diseases such as HIV to increase after they had been controlled, but the lowest levels of HIV diagnosis in Australia were 10 years ago.

“We thought we had at least reached a plateau about five years ago, but we have not,” he said.

About 24,000 to 25,000 Australians are living with diagnosed HIV but up to 10,000 people could have HIV that has never been diagnosed, he said.

The most recent increase in the number of new HIV cases diagnosed – from 1051 new cases in 2010 to 1137 in 2011 – has been driven by increases among gay men.

Victoria’s acting chief health officer Michael Ackland said 150 new diagnoses were reported in the year to July.

Experts attending the Australasian HIV/AIDS Conference today will launch a plan, called The Melbourne Declaration, to try to stop the spread of the disease – including calls to remove restrictions on funding HIV medications for people in the early stages of the disease and fast-track the approval of antiretroviral drugs for prevention of HIV in people exposed to it

Priests Hire Hitmen to Kill themselves

This was after one if them discovered he had AIDS.

Rev. Rafael Reatiga asked his parishioners to pray for him and gave the choirmaster a list of songs for his funeral just before he was found shot to death together with another Roman Catholic priest, a Colombian prosecutor said Tuesday.

Authorities initially suspected robbery when Reatiga’s body was found along with that of Rev. Richard Piffano, 37, in a car in southern Bogota on Jan. 27, 2011.

But on Tuesday prosecutor Ana Patricia Larrota said investigators had determined that it was suicide by hitmen: the two priests hired gunmen to kill them after Reatiga discovered he had AIDS.

The priests gave members of a criminal gang the equivalent of $8,500, said the chief investigator of the prosecutor’s office, Maritza Gonzalez, as two of the four alleged assassins appeared before a judge for processing.

She said the two priests had originally planned to throw themselves off a cliff into a canyon north of Bogota but apparently lacked the nerve.

In addition to AIDS, Reatiga had syphilis and witness testimony indicated he was a regular visitor to places frequented by gays in central Bogota, Larrota told the judge who processed the two alleged assassins on Tuesday…

South African Condom Failures Result in Massive Recall

I still maintain that the only way to prevent the transmission of HIV is through abstinence and fidelity in marriage.

LifeSite News:

1.35 millions condoms given out prior to celebrations put on by South Africa’s governing political party, the African National Congress, have been recalled due to complaints that the locally made prophylactics were defective.

Spokesman Jabu Mbalula of the health department of the province of Free State, which distributed the condoms before the Jan. 6-8 celebrations, said they had recalled the entire batch of 1,350,000 condoms around Jan. 18, according to an Associated Press report.

South Africa’s AIDS Treatment Action Campaign spokesman Sello Mokhalipi said his organization lodged a complaint with the government after “we had people flocking in, coming to report that the condoms had burst while they were having sex,” adding that people were panicking because they themselves or their sex partners were infected with AIDSWe poured water into the condoms and they were leaking, not just in one place, they were leaking like a sieve,” Mokhalipi said, describing improvised tests carried out at the Treatment Action Campaign office in the city of Bloemfontein where the African National Congress celebration took place.

“People came from all over and probably took many away with them, so those condoms are now all over the country,” Mokhalipi said.

The government has had to recall leaky condoms in the past. A 2007 recall of 20 million defective condoms manufactured locally was traced to a testing manager at the South African Bureau of Standards having taken a bribe to certify the faulty condoms. In 2008 another 5 million defective condoms reportedly had to be recalled.

Health department spokesman Mbalula confirmed to the media that all the condoms handed out by his department were from shipments that had been quality tested by the South African Bureau of Standards.

South Africa has the highest number of AIDS cases in the world, reported to be 5.6 million. The government’s efforts to reduce the number of infections by distributing hundreds of millions of free condoms have had little effect.

Dr. Edward Greene, the former director of the AIDS research project at Harvard University, said in a Vatican Radio interview about the African AIDS epidemic last June that in populations where HIV is not restricted to prostitutes but is found in the general population, condoms are counterproductive. “Condoms have never been found to be used consistently in any general population.”

“We now know that having multiple concurrent sexual partners is what drives the so-called hyper epidemics of southern and east Africa. So, discouraging multiple concurrent partners is the single most important intervention on behavior change that will bring down HIV rates,” Dr. Greene said.

“Condoms have not proven to work very well,” he concluded.

Yes, they are but another lie of the Devil!

World Aids Day

Today is World Aids Day:

 A prayer:

God of our weary years, God of our silent tears, O Good and gracious God, you are the God of health and wholeness. In the plan of your creation, you call us to struggle in our sickness and to cling always to the cross of your Son.

Father, we are your servants. Many of us are now suffering with HIV or AIDS. We come before you, and ask you, if it is your holy will, to take away this suffering from us, restore us to health and lead us to know you and your powerful healing, love of body and spirit.

We ask you also to be with those of us who nurse your sick ones. We are the mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, children, and friends of your suffering people. It is so hard for us to see those whom we love suffer. You know what it is to suffer. Help us to minister in loving care, support, and patience to your people who suffer with HIV and AIDS.

Lead us to do whatever it will take to eradicate this illness from the lives of those who are touched by it, both directly and indirectly. Trusting in you and the strength of your Spirit, we pray these things in the name of Jesus.

Amen.

Vatican Analyzes How to Help AIDS Patients

Aids Vaccine ‘works in monkeys’

BBC reports:

A new vaccine can protect macaques against the monkey equivalent of HIV and could provide a fresh approach to an HIV vaccine, a study suggests.

US researchers say the vaccine offered protection to 13 of 24 rhesus macaques treated in the experiment.

In 12 of the monkeys, the vaccine was still effective 12 months later.

They claim the work, published in the journal Nature, could “significantly contribute” to the development of an effective HIV/Aids vaccine…

China: Highly Contagious AIDS-Like Disease Spreading

Not nice news to start off with today!

In a small hotel across from the Beijing Center for Disease Control and Prevention, a reporter from New Express Daily, dressed in an isolation suit, interviewed a dozen “unusual” patients from different areas of China. Their symptoms are painful and debilitating, and AIDS-like, but repeated tests for HIV have come up negative.

Lin Jun, one of the patients interviewed in the March 24 New Express Daily report, said he used to be chubby, but now he is skin and bones, and his joints have become all deformed.

Lin is referred to in the group as “big brother” for his kindness and giving fellow patients hope when they feel hopeless, with some having considered suicide.

In 2008 Lin’s mother received a blood transfusion at a hospital. Afterwards, she experienced frequent night sweats, numb limbs, aches all over, creaking joints, rashes on her hands, and weight loss.

In May of that year, Lin accidentally became infected through contact with his mother’s blood. Fourteen days later, he fell ill with swollen lymph nodes on his neck, sore knees that made clicking sounds, and pain all over his body. He also started vomiting after every meal, and the left side of his face swelled up. In half a year, his weight dropped from 82 kilograms (181 lbs) to 52 kilograms (115 lbs).

Three months later, his wife and child developed the same symptoms.

Lin said he went to every major hospital in Shanghai, but could not get a definite diagnosis. He has taken the HIV test eight times, and each time the test turned out negative.

Then he found an Internet blog called “The Negative Group,” which he learned stands for “HIV negative.” He realized that writing on this blog were all people like himself, with the same kinds of symptoms, desperate to find a cure.

Several Chinese media have recently reported that the Department of Health of Guangdong Province has confirmed that people in Beijing, Shanghai, and Guangdong have fallen ill after being infected with an unknown virus. The patients think they have AIDS, but they test negative for HIV.

Guangdong has organized clinical experts, epidemiologists and psychologists to work together on these cases. The Health Ministry has also selected six provinces with more patients, including Beijing, Shanghai, Zhejiang, Hunan, Jiangsu and Guangdong, to conduct epidemiological studies, but there are no results yet, the reports said.

In most of the 30 cases investigated by New Express Daily for its March 24 report, people said their relatives and friends are also infected. Most of the 30 patients were infected through sexual contact. Some experts diagnosed them as having AIDS phobia.

However, the disease seems to be highly contagious and can spread by contact via any bodily fluid—through kissing, shared utensils, sweat, and even protected sex. Once infected, the immune system appears to be attacked, which results in a decrease of white blood cells and the body’s ability to defend against infectious disease and foreign materials.

In the past, official health agencies have only conducted HIV tests on these patients and have not checked for other, similarly pathological viruses. With HIV results coming up negative, many patients then stopped taking protective measures with their relatives. Subsequently, all their relatives and friends were infected, many have said.

A retired officer in his 40’s told The Epoch Times for a previous June 16, 2010 report that he had been infected with a disease with similar symptoms in 2009, at a get-together at a friend’s house. “I thought it was just a cold at the time, so I still participated in all kind of gatherings. Consequently, over 100 of my comrades in the army, relatives and friends were infected by me,” he said.
