Predictions

This is something I haven’t done before, but given that it’s New Year’s Eve, how about we make some predictions about the coming year? So mine are as follows:

  • 2013 will be tougher than 2012
  • The Church of England will make a way for Bishopesses
  • Israel’s gonna kick Iran back to the Stone Age
  • Persecution of Christians will increase
  • The iPad 5 will be out
  • The divide between those in the Ordinariate and those not will only grow deeper
  • The (complete) Ignatius Study Bible will be nearing completion (Scott Hahn: PLEASE!)
  • And the Blue Bulls will win the Super 15

So what do you think will happen in 2013?

Next year, this time, we’ll see how well we did! Cf. Deuteronomy 18:22.

    4. Persecution of Christians in the U.S. intensifies, liberal mobs vandalize more churches.
    5. Apple’s stocks will plummet as the U.S. heads into another recession.

    7. In an attempt to be inoffensive, Protestants come up with another weird version of the Bible.

Additional 10, and more wishful thinking involved:

    8. I will no longer be trolling this blog as I get a girlfriend and a better-paying job.
    9. SSPX gets normalized into the Catholic Church.
    10. Nothing happens in the Catholic-Orthodox dialogue towards Christian Unity.
11.Pope Benedict XVI is allowed to enter Russia.
    12. Gun control laws in the U.S. tightens, gun owners stockpile, black market flourishes.
    13. A strong earthquake hits Los Angeles, miraculously destroying only the ugly cathedral there. With no one hurt, Catholics take a hint and build a nicer-looking cathedral.
    14. Traditional Latin Mass spreads in the U.S.
    15. Richard Dawkins converts to Roman Catholicism and is never heard from again.
    16. St. Mary of the Angels in Hollywood enters the Ordinariate.
    17. Jesus comes back, the End of Times finally occurs.

  2. 1. Canadian Ordinariate is formed including three mission parishes in Toronto area.
    2. An African Ordinariate is formed for Anglicans and Protestants seeking unity with Rome.
    3. The US Secretary of State Kerry brokers a peace deal in the Middle East between Jordan and Egypt giving Palestinians a homeland including Gaza.
    4. Hilary Clinton gives up politics.
    5. The US goes over the “fiscal cliff” inaugurating another recession and the continued decline of the US empire . . . large numbers of people start reading St. Augustine’s Civitas Dei.
    6. Pope Benedict makes provision for Lutherans to be reconciled.
    7. Apple merges with Microsoft.
    8. Princess Kate gives birth to a girl and heir to the throne – Victoria Elizabeth Margaret Wales.
    9. Prime Minister Harper of Canada announces that he will not run again paving the way for Jason Kenney after Justin Trudeau is elected Liberal leader.
    10. Newt Gingrich starts a colony on the moon — for his ex-wives.

    1. #1 and 2: If there’s enough people, maybe. For the majority, the Ordinariates are crazy-talk. For crazy people.

#4 seems more possible than you think.

      1. The majority around Jesus said the same thing.

“For since, in the wisdom of God, the world did not know God through wisdom, God decided, through the foolishness of our proclamation, to save those who believe.”
        1 Corinthians 1.21

In any case, the people I respect (Pope Benedict amongst them) think that the “crazy-talk” is coming from the Anglican Communion and its synods. But of course in the eyes of the world that is deemed to be sanity.

      2. I previously quoted St. Anthony the Great who said:

“A time will come when the whole world will go mad. And to anyone who is not mad they will say: ‘You are mad, for you are not like us.’ ”

Apparently this holy man who lived more than a thousand years ago had to deal with the same things the Ordinariates, and other conservative Christian groups are dealing with.

You see the majority go crazy, and being the lone sane person makes you the loon.

    2. as for #2, it is inevitable that sooner or later an African Ordinariate will be established. It won’t take many petitioning congregations to Rome to establish one. Those in charge of producing the Ordinariate liturgy would do well to at least consider South African Anglo-Catholic practice now so that the BSW 2.0 will truly be a liturgy for the whole world.

  3. Correction: 8. The Duchess of Cambridge gives birth to a daughter, third in line to the throne of GB, Canada and Commonwealth – Victoria Elizabeth Margaret Diana Wales.

      1. I know enough to know that Spies is a show pony who shirks work up front to seagull in the backline. Why Ludeke made him captain is beyond me. If the Bulls had any sense their first choice backrow would be Stegmann, Stander and Potgieter (Jacques). Not that I’m complaining about Stander coming North 🙂

As for the gameplan; the kick and chase of 2009/10 just doesn’t cut it anymore. If nothing else the pack is nowhere near the quality it was a couple of years ago now that Botha and Matfield are gone.

  4. Our Blessed Mother appeared to the children of Fatima on the 13th of each month (except for the month the children were imprisoned). Since it seems to be a number favored by her, perhaps it would be a good study of those apparitions and the messages contained therein; to be forewarned is to be forearmed. Our Lady comes as a ‘Beloved Mother’ and ‘the Seat of Wisdom’!

A certain prediction we can truly count on is: Where Tribulations, Fear and Sin abound, GRACE abounds all the more! No matter what…to abide in this Grace is to ‘abide in God’!
With this, I accept Christ’s prediction: “MY Peace I give you, MY Peace I leave with you”!!
Jesus Christ’s PEACE is a Promise in 2013 – for those who BELIEVE and to those who accept it!!

  5. Israel’s gonna kick Iran back to the Stone Age…what an awful comment from a clergyman.

An anglicised Afrikaner I can take, but one who has the same view of the secular man made Republic of Israel as do so many American evangelicals I find very sad.

Yes the jewish people deserve a home, but the Palestinians ( inclusing 120,000 Christians)deserve justice.

    1. Don’t be so dramatic. BTW. I’m not Afrikaans (despite the surname) and I was merely stating what I think will happen sometime this year. Ahmadinejad is a lunatic! And Israel has a right to exist, and that, in peace.

  6. Not Afrikaans? Oh well, neither am I! As to predictions – bearing in mind my status as Criswell’s http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Amazing_Criswell) youngest living disciple:

    1. The Ordinariates are increasingly seen in Rome as a way of asserting orthodoxy in the Church throughout the Anglosphere; steps taken for foundations in India and Africa.
    2. The Pope visits Russia.
    3. The civil authorities in Western Europe and the Anglosphere become increasingly belligerent toward dissent in general and the Church in particular.
    4. New pedophile scandals rock other segments of the establishment; as with the BBC, since it is not the Church, fallout will be minimised to the best of the media’s ability.
    5. Although it is not until 2014, the Republicans will lose control of the House of Representatives.
    6. In response to 3, some standing bishops become more courageous, and new appointees are carefully cut from the same cloth.
    7. The Benedictine Reform continues.

Of course, the man from whom I learned the prophecy trade was only right once, so I don’t know how much stock you want to put into my predictions!
