On Fiddleback Chasubles

Christopher Howse finds that Anglicans who have joined with Rome do not all favour Baroque brocade and lace.

Sacred Mysteries: Bring fiddleback chasubles back?

  1. Always just a simple white Alb for me (with the stole). But then I’m Low Church for the most part. I wonder sometimes if we have lost the simple but profound mystery of God? By its nature liturgy is simple but ordered worship, and yet we are all still sinners before God, even the priest/presbyter! When once the so-called celebrant (of Word & Sacrament) loses this sense, both he and the people of God are in trouble! … Yes speaking my heart out-loud (emphatic I hope)!

      1. Btw Fr. S, just a note here, but I have been reading (again) my copy of ‘Captured by the Crucified’, The Practical Theology of Austin Farrer (its an edited book..T &T Clark). I love Farrer’s stuff! C.S. Lewis’s friend & priest they say.

    1. Yest to simple reasonable ordered worship, though that makes me think me of the beauty and dignity of the Western low liturgy. Nicely compliments the high liturgy.
